New Tax Year

We are now nearly a month into the new tax year and again this year is looking like being a tough year for many business with the current financial climate. It is a good idea to make sure your tax return for the previous financial year is returned to the Inland Revenue as soon as possible. This will confirm your tax liability if there is one for the previous year and gives you plenty of time before the 31st Jan deadline to make all payments avoiding costly fines for late filing/ payment.

The new tax year also brings a good opportunity to start the year with organised accurate accounts. For many people the thought of sitting down and doing the books is daunting and therefore is put off for as long as possible. This is a false economy as the longer you leave the books the longer it will take to sort them out and any errors on invoices, bank statements etc. can be missed, it also leads to the benefits of accurate timely accounts being lost.

This is where a bookkeeper can be of benefit, in these tough economical times with the country sinking in to a double dip recession the thought of paying a bookkeeper can seem an unneeded expense, but in fact a bookkeeper can save your company money. The money you pay a bookkeeper normally will be far less than the man hours of doing it yourself, bookkeeping is a business expense so therefore tax deductible and is far less than paying an accountant to sort through your accounts and correct errors. The creation of accurate timely accounts that a bookkeeper can offer can help keep your business competitive in these tough times allowing you at glance to see how well your company is doing.

All the best for the year ahead
